June 5th marks the opening of the 8th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF). Running a full 6 days, a record-breaking 124 films are scheduled to un-spool at HBFF 2007, June 5-10, 2007 in Beverly Hills, California. The 124 films includes 29 features, 64 shorts, 18 documentaries, 9 student films, 2 animated shorts and 2 music videos, from seven countries including Spain, Cameroon, South Africa, Haiti, Nigeria, the UK, and the United States. From June 5th through June 10th at the Fine Arts Theatre and Laemmle Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills, HBFF 2007 promises to again bring the best in independent black cinema.
Among the notable talent appearing in this year's line-up of HBFF films are Elise Neal and Wood Harris in RAN$UM GAMES; rapper Coolio in SIDES, Eric Roberts and Tico Wells in SISTER'S KEEPER; Flex Alexander, Tangie Miller, Essence Atkins and Tico Wells in LOVE & OTHER 4 LETTER WORDS; NBA basketball star Doug Christie and his wife Jackie in THE CHRISTIES UN-CUT;
Omar Gooding in THE CANDY SHOP; rapper Chuck D., Ella Joyce and Glynn Turman in CITY TEACHER; Richard Lawson and Johnny "Bookman" Brown in I'M THROUGH W/WHITE GIRLS, Tonya Pinkins in TRUE GRITS, Tamara Tunie in AFTERLIFE; T.C. Carson in IN CONFLICT WITH KISMET; Art Evans in TESTIFY; and DB Woodside and Reiko Aylesworth in FIRST. In addition, the late James Brown's grandson, Jason, pays homage to his grandfather in the animated short, A TRIBUTE TO MY GRANDDADDY. And actress Victoria Rowell wrote, directed and produced the documentary, THE MENTOR.
