Youth from the ages of 14-18 can qualify for six to twelve week courses in film, TV, and computer animation. Classes have limited spaces available and enrollment will be decided on a first come first serve basis.
All students who complete the entire program will receive a Certificate of Completion Award. Completion of the program requires that each student attend every class and finish all assignments. Any student who is unable to complete a class and wishes to receive a certificate must make-up the missed class and assignments at a later date.
What We Do. The New Hope Foundation Film & Art Institute is a non-profit 501(c)3 "mobile" educational program that has the unique approach of actually bringing the school to the youth who, due to a lack of financing and or resources, would otherwise not have the chance to experience the Hollywood dream. The New Hope Foundation Film & Art Institute will bring a team of instructors and equipment, including guest industry professionals, on location to youth in their own community to offer classes, free of charge, with industry standard equipment and state of the art technique. This method of on location teaching will allow the youth to express themselves more naturally and develop the ability to use their creativity in a way that can benefit the community in which they live.
The goal of the New Hope Foundation Film & Art Institute is to provide youth in the communities with the tools and knowledge that can enhance their creative abilities through six week introductory courses on film introduction, photography and computer animation depending on the interest of the student. In addition, as the students qualify, a twelve week continued education will be offered, as well as the opportunity to travel with the school to other areas and use what they learned to help teach others. The classes will then encourage the youth to use their creativity in a manner that can strengthen relationships and contribute to the well being of the community and give them a new career opportunity. This innovative approach of bringing the school on location will give the communities a creative outlet for the youth to use that can continue to work and grow even after having moved on to another neighborhood.
Professional Instructors. With state of the art equipment and qualified instructors the students will learn the same techniques used in professional media.By going on location for filming projects, students will get hands-on film-making experience that main stream multimedia companies use.
Future Opportunities. Students who qualify will be invited to go on location with the team to events and get the chance to help and gain experience in real multimedia jobs.
Internships with Major Companies. Through New Hope Foundation Film & Art Institute, as students qualify, internships with major TV and film studios will be available.

Science & Technology Awareness Day
Please help us alert youth, parents and educators in your area to attend the fifth annual Science and Technology Awareness Day on May 10, 2008. It will take place from noon to 4 p.m., at the Expo Community Center, 3990 S. Menlo Avenue in Los Angeles. “Energy for the Future” will be the theme.
Local area students, elementary to high school, are urged to take part in engineering and scientific experiments lead by professionals. Other displays, exhibits and activities will be offered as well as giveaways for participating students.
The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works staff and Los Angeles African American Engineers and Professional Employees Association (AAEPEA) sponsors Awareness Day each year to generate interest in science, technology, and engineering in young people who are generally underrepresented in these fields of study. By conducting fun, hands-on activities like these, AAEPEA believes it can motivate youth to study math and science and pursue Engineering-related majors in college.
For more information, contact Sunday Owairu at (323) 342-6044 or (323) 342-6200.

The Girl Blue Project
The Girl Blue Project: A creative self-empowerment program for teenage girls
The Girl Blue Project was founded in June of 2003 as a proactive move to re-educate, motivate and empower teen girls, 14 to 19 years old, in Los Angeles County. This innovative, free intensive was designed by actor and writer Marlow Wyatt to focus on the social and emotional problems of teen girls and how these issues affect their ability to learn and lead productive, fulfilling lives. When volunteering as a tutor in Los Angeles Unified Schools with the Reading by 9 program, Wyatt began to understand that the emotional needs of teenage girls at this delicate age were being overlooked.
The Girl Blue Project is a FREE self-empowerment program for teen girls 14 to 18 years old in Los Angeles County. Our program is designed to build self-esteem and promote discipline and self-acceptance. Our curriculum includes yoga, self-esteem workshops, etiquette, money management, women's health/harm reduction, dance, acting, voice, creative writing and much more!
All girls may apply and we are especially interested in those in Foster Care. Our program dates are July 9th through August 18th. All applications must be received by July 2nd. For detailed information about our program, please visit our website at www.thegirlblueproject.org or via email at info@thegirlblueproject.org .
